Liebherr’s Universal Control System
Our R&D and Engineering Departments had the idea to develop a system platform for different aerospace applications: the concept of our Universal Control System (UCS) was born.
Our UCS is applicable for aircraft systems in CS 23/25/27/29 applications.
It has a multi-redundant computer architecture with highest availability.
The system is based on a decentralized electronic architecture with a pure digital communication between the units. Thus, due to minimum amount of wiring on aircraft level, significant weight savings can be achieved.
The UCS consists of two main units, a main processing electronic (MPEU) and a remote electronic unit (REU), both in dissimilar versions to comply with DAL A safety regulations
The concept is based on a common HW platform with minimum effort to adjust to the individual needs. With a data bus length of up to 100 m, the units can be spread throughout the aircraft wherever needed to control actuators, valves or evaluate sensor data. Flexibility is achieved by the multi-purpose REUs in combination with flexible amount of units, thanks to a Time Triggered Architecture which provides the capability for a real time operating system.
Benefits:
- A common hardware development for many systems
- A common low level software / firmware development for many systems
- Originally designed for flight control and landing gear systems, it is suitable for other systems as well.
