  • Griebel & Mahncke invests in Liebherr LTM 1095-5.1
  • LTM 1095-5.1 mobile crane features a long boom and 15 tonnes of ballast which can be carried on the crane
  • Liebherr has a good reputation in the market and provides competent advice to Griebel & Mahncke

Griebel & Mahncke is a transport and assembly contractor which mainly uses the three mobile cranes in its fleet for its own hoisting work. Recently it has added a new crane from Liebherr to its fleet: an LTM 1095-5.1 with a load capacity of 95 tonnes has replaced an 80-tonne machine and is now the company's largest mobile crane. Griebel & Mahncke relies on the latest technology from the market leader and ordered the new crane with VarioBase®, the innovative Liebherr supporting system.

Griebel & Mahncke Schwertransporte GmbH & Co.KG based in Hamburg specialises in heavy transport services as well as transport, relocation and assembly work for systems and machines. The company mainly uses the three mobile cranes in its fleet for its own hoisting work. Griebel & Mahncke also rents out its cranes when it has capacity to do so. The family-run company employs around 30 people and was founded in 1924.

The Griebel & Mahncke crane fleet comprises two small cranes in the 40 and 60-tonne classes and the new Liebherr LTM 1095-5.1 mobile crane which will replace an 80-tonne machine. The new crane will increase the company's capacities upwards by covering the load capacity range between 80 and 110 tonnes. "We decided on the LTM 1095-5.1 as a result of its 58-metre telescopic boom. It is also ideal for balcony installations with its folding jib and these are jobs that we complete very regularly. This involves hoisting loads of up to 5 tonnes over houses", says Günther Mahncke, the third generation owner of the company. "Another plus point is that the crane can carry lots of ballast with its 12-tonne axle load. That enables us to carry out a wide range of hoisting work without requiring additional transport." Liebherr developed the LTM 1095-5.1 as a taxi crane. It can be driven on public roads with its complete set of 15 tonnes of basic ballast with a 12-tonne axle load. Another 8 tonnes of additional ballast are available.

Prior to deciding on the new crane, Günther Mahncke talked to colleagues in the industry about their experiences with various crane manufacturers. "I heard again and again that Liebherr has an excellent reputation. People repeatedly told me about the good service and after-sales. The advice I received from Liebherr was also superb and they really looked closely at our wishes and requirements." Griebel & Mahncke then also ordered the LTM 1095-5.1 with the VarioBase® variable support system. This innovative system provides additional safety and increased load capacity, particularly for hoists over the outriggers. The LICCON job planner from Liebherr enables crane jobs to be planned in advance which is also very important to family-run Griebel & Mahncke. The experts within the company visit the site in advance and decide how best to position the crane.
