Environmental impact is a key consideration for Liebherr's aerospace and transportation systems division, and is incorporated into the strategy under the following forms:

• All new investments (buildings and facilities, machine-tools, toolings) systematically comply with the highest level of environmental protection
• All sites have quantified targets for the reduction of their environmental footprint (example of parameters that are monitored are energy consumption, water consumption, waste treatment)
• Liebherr invests into new technologies that will allow future aircraft to substantially reduce C02 emissions, NOx emissions and noise emissions. Liebherr’s research and development work are led in the frame of the targets set by ACARE (Advisory Council for Aeronautics Research in Europe): 50 % reduction in CO2, 80 % reduction in NOx, 50 % reduction in noise emissions
• Liebherr’s product design and development process now systematically takes into account, in addition to the contribution to the CO2, NOx and noise reduction targets, the product’s manufacturing and life-end disposal cycles, and their impact on the environment
• All industrial sites are either ISO 14001 certified or have started the process for getting certified
• All activities on all sites comply with the Reach European regulations about the use of chemicals
